Topographically Present

We stop for a red-light
Through the windscreen we see
The couple on the corner
Lean in to embrace
Perhaps not embrace
Maybe entwine

Heads together bodies melded
And whose limb is that
Why do they have to do that here? you ask
What! I say
Look at them
Cuddling on the corner, it’s pathetic!

We’re running late and
Slightly lost so the mood in the car
Doesn’t exactly match
The easy listening crap
On the radio
Or perhaps it does

You thought I knew where we were going
I thought I knew where we were going
We were both wrong
Not only about this trip
But perhaps about every other trip
We’ve ever embarked upon
