I’m delighted to share this third Women of Sensual Seed Conversation, where I caught up with Susanne Calman.
Susanne is the founder of Feminine Spirit, a fusion of yoga, wellness, retreats, spiritual tours, medicinal food and natural beauty. She has the gift of making women feel rejuvenated and re-energised.
Last year I travelled on her Journeys for the Soul, Desert Awakening tour to Uluru – it was a truly magical experience. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this conversation.
1. Where do you live & what do you love about living there?
I live in Williamstown Victoria for 25 years and I love what Melbourne offers me.
I love her peoples obsession with sport, culture, food and coffee. She doesn’t try to be Sydney because she is her own City. Melbourne is like a woman – you need to scratch beneath the surface to find her beauty… She gives me permission to shine in my own unique way.
2. How do you start your day?
With an intention to align my energy – “today will be a fabulous day”.
Lots of water to re-hydrate.
Morning walk along the bay stopping midway to meditate under an ancestor She-Oak tree (the spirit tree).
Before I begin work, I will do a mini aromatic kinesiology balance, oracle card reading. Voila!
3. Favourite season?
Love them all! I try to find beauty in each season… Although for workshops and retreats, I prefer Autumn and Spring and my energy is aligned with this. I follow pagan and Wurundjeri seasons and meanings.
4. One thing that might surprise people about you
Melbourne Winter means Football. I watch a lot of footy games with AFL and my sons and grandson games. One day I will actually learn the rules. But then again maybe not.
5. Your favourite Sensual Seed card? Why?
Magnificent – She presents when I’m doubting myself and I am instantly reminded that I have the power within me at all times. I can choose then to see myself as my soul sees me…or not! Magnifique!!
6. One defining moment in your life
Being in a life or death situation as a 9 year old child.
When one’s life hangs in the balance, it changes your life!
In my 30’s I was diagnosed with PTSD and it was such a relief to discover that what I was experiencing was very real and that I wasn’t crazy. This was the defining moment in my healing.
45 years later through the power of yoga, reiki, self-care and a whole lotta courage – I am now re-defining myself.
7. What does self-care mean to you?
There are two quotes that I hold in my heart and both say it beautifully…
“Self-care is not a selfish act but an act of self-love”
“You have a solemn obligation to take care of yourself because you never know when the world will need you” Rabbi Hillel.
